Bill de Blasio and Letitia James plans lawsuit to halt city child care cuts

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is preparing to sue to stop the city from cutting child care programming for thousands of kids.

De Blasio and City Councilwoman Letitia James (D-Brooklyn) charge that the bidding process the city used to rework its child care system arbitrarily ended contracts for 71 programs.

The new system would cut 5,500 child care seats, a change incorporated into budget deliberations, which could restore some of the slots.

De Blasio and James will meet with lawyers and program directors on Monday to develop a suit.
